I hear that BR is registered and space is saved but there was less organized response than hoped for and some of the people who intended to lead have gone elsewhere. So its back to basics, share what ya brought, loosely cohesive,festival camping with friends and neighbors.

Burning Man Camp equipment needs a home

As we approach the 30 days to burn mark Jeff, Joe and I have pulled the plug on the Blazin' Raisin camp for 2008. We have had less than five people from any pod contact us about coming to the Playa this year. With so little interest we have decided to join other camps this year. The equipment from last year has been in a storage unit in Reno. I will be taking this stuff out and up to the Playa with the intent of not renting the unit for another year. If anyone has interest in anything or advice on where it can go until 2009 please let me know.

I 'm a professionnal dancer, and I plan to come again for a dance and art therapeutic training at Tamalpa institute in Kentfield from September the 8 to December the 10, 2008 .

so I'm still searching for an accomodation for us for the 3months ...

I don't know exactly how you are living , I know that there is some yurts ... and I live also in France in Yurt with all my familie ... 2008 BM Camp

Good morning, happy Father's day to Joe, Marty and Norm,

Time to begin the final planing for Burning Man 2008. Jeff Feldman has worked hard to secure us a site under Blazin Raisin name, our job is to build, run and take down the camp. First order is to outline the vision for this year. With most of the original tribe taking a year or two off we are carrying the camp for the next year or more. Our vision is to offer a space for any of the groups that have come to Blazin Raisin in the past -- provided each of those groups comes in a fully self sufficient pod. Our pod will manage the entire site and try to bring all pods together as a whole.

Each member of this pod will be asked for two things; About $250 to cover food, truck rental and storage unit, as well as working on one of the pod teams;

Set-up; early arrival and site design as others show up.
Kitchen; kitchen team will be responsible for over-seeing all meals but will aided by others helping with meals.
Camp Vibe; This group will help with camp vibe, general pick-up during the week and any parties or events.
Random acts of the Playa; This is an emergency response team that will be available for storm work, member support and anything else they decide needs to addressed.
Take Down; This is the last team off the Playa.

With 20-30 members each person should have a very reasonable amount of work to keep the camp running smoothly.

At breakfast we say the chicken is involved, but the pig is committed. The following people are committed:

Jeff Feldman has done a wonderful job getting the camp placed. From here until we arrive I will be point person. This includes early arrival and building our pod, filling teams, gathering money - paypal is rsnll.comcast.net, renting and loading truck with camp equipment from storage unit, filling water bladder, (250 gals - enough for most, not all, pod water use, but each person needs to bring extra.), and food shopping.

Our goal is to have everyone paid and everything ready and fully planned by Aug 1.

2008 site application is going in!

A round of applause for Mr. Jeff Feldman. He has taken the instructions from Adam and is registering our rag tag group of pods for 2008.

This space will be for the groups use. Each group, Blazin Raisin, Solstice Grove, Sustainable Roadshow and Punta Mona, will have a spot and will be responsible for their own group. We are registering a group of about 125 people so should have same size space as last year.

Would like to have all pods set in such a way we have nice flow among the pods. Anyone from other pods who is coming early for set-up can help with that. Please let me know who is leader for each of the other pods this year. I can use a contact name and email for each of the other pods.

We are taking names for Punta Mona pod. Send an email to me at rthomas@socialk.com I will coordinate our pod.

I found this deep in a Culture of Burning Man Tribe discussion of the BM08 theme "American Dream" . I thought You all might like it.

Seems if nothing else we are now asking questions,
immigrants come here from all directions,
a melting pot for culture old yet not wise,
combined and marketed for mass consumption,
our real freedoms evaporating before our eyes.
What do we do to stop the swift flow,
our economy breaking off like chunks of melting snow,
trickling into a stream of corrupt international currents,
flooding out true culture and small time merchants.
Perhaps we are called to awaken Apathanias heart,
of which burning man is surely a part.
What if instead we bring the burn home,
exciting the minds of those who were once drones,
Create what we would like to see,
rather than mope and grumpily acede,
to a really bad dream that needs to change now,
in our hearts and our minds we all know how,
things would be if we had our druthers,
lets drop off the training wheels and remember it is we who govern.

Eli Cottage Again

Hi Folks!
Things are going great here in London. Playing music as a duo with
a friend and it sounds really good, gigging fairly regularly. More
adventures this Spring to come, including Berlin and meeting my
parents in Tuscany!

For this home stretch, I'm needing one last subletter for
my cottage in Santa Cruz.

March 1st is the start date, and June 15th is the end date (when I come home!!!!!).
The furnished sublet is $625 a month and very beautiful with a
big yard and you also share the main house,
kitchen/bath with Henry, a great guy. The cottage is a separate
building nicely finished with a skylight and bedloft and nice storage
(included: bed, desk, stereo, record collection, plants, VERY cheap
highspeed internet: $12./month if you want it).

The Paiute Tribal Council has decided to close Pyramid Lake to overnight camping effective Oct. 1st due to graffiti and other disrespectful actions that have occurred there. The Council is open to receiving letters about this decision. The future of Blazin Raisin Village at Burning Man

There is a lot of talk among many Raisins of the possible subdivision/breakup/re visioning/survival of Blazin Raisin Village .
This topic is posted to hear what people have to say about that. Some of the crucial few who actually birth/bring/build the infrastructure have said they will not be coming next year. Others have become disenchanted with some aspect or another of the village and will be camping elsewhere in the future.

Please step up with suggestions , criticisms , ideas or whatever. Now is the time to get it out while it is still fresh. Everything is welcome.

If things go on as they have in past years, nothing will be communicated/ resolved until 1 month before the next burn, a handful of people will franticly do the necessary organizational and logistical work , money will trickle in barely in time to cover expenses and a very few will do the lions share of early infrastructure set-up.
There has got to be a better way! So write it here if you wish to help the community meta morph into its next phase. Otherwise, what we have created will surely dissolve or go sour. If you want to have this experience in the future, own it! Participate, all year! This village is a Do-ocracy, if you see a need , do it, individually or in groups. It takes a village to build a village.

Equinox at Pyramid Lake

Hey hey y'all...

Pyramid Lake is a magical, sacred, super fun camping spot that I have visited after Burning Man the last 3 years. The perfect temperature water is incredible, endless rocks and caves to explore, hot water seeping out of the base of the pyramid, a great clay/mud patch for spa mud treatments, etc etc. It's actually quite unworldly. If I were a UFO, I would definately land there!

Every time I have been I think about how I must bring Xanthia to experience this special special place. Unfortunately, as of Oct 1, there will no longer be camping allowed on the beach right in front of the pyramid. Big bummer. So...

We are rallying up a posse to make the 4 (or so) hour voyage to bask in the final days of access to camping and to celebrate the Fall Equinox. WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU JOIN US!!!

Details: We will be leaving at noon on Friday, Sept 21 and returning Sunday, Sept 23 in the evening. Permits are required for each car and cost $9 per night. I can get as many as we need as long as I know who is coming. I just sleep on the beach, but you can also set up a tent or whatever makes you comfy! Anyone have a kayak? There are porta-potties, but no other services. If desired, I will organize food. So, let me know ASAP if you want to come play.

Also... mark Oct 28 on your calendar. It's the 17th annual Pumpkin Carving Brunch. Evite to come later. In any case, we hope you are happy and healthy! Much love,

just putting it out here on Tribe that i totally thank and praise everybody in Blazin Raisin world who made this burn so great for me and for all of us at 4:20 between freshwater and grassland! heeeee hee hee

Raisin Camp was a sweet place to call home--

i did feel the overall spirit of love and community and interconnectivity and fun and beauty and support was very warm and very high and despite the destruction of our two ship masts, people weathered the storms in good spirits...and of course in the blink of an eye our camp mcgyvers were alrady jerryrigging new configurations for shade and wind protection....

maybe next year, if there is a next year?---something stronger for our community shade---think pyramid?

obviously it was great to rekindle old standing friendships with you adam and feather and elana and ian and of course to expand and deepen newer ones in our jolly little village---
we also may have been one of the few camps in black rock city in which spanish was regularly spoken as well and in that regard thanks punta mona for keeping us--lets just say--exceptionally cool!....

the only major drawback was that the BM week is too short...as a result theres so many great souls with great smiles and kind hearts who i would have loved to gotten to know much better yet got just a light sampler of----nonetheless opportunities may unfold down the road...

ok my friends --- enough for now --- back to my "regular" life here deep in the redrock canyons of utah ---yalls take a dip in the ocean for me...OK?

We have moved to 4:30 and F (fresh water) , sharing the mini plaza there with Otters and several other camps from 3:30 in years past. We are sufficiently in from Esplanade, away from large scale sound at 2:00 and from center camp busyness. This will give a reasonable amount of quiet vibe while also encouraging participation with playa public who come to the plaza.
Please look at the new city map www.burningman.com/preparation/maps/07_maps/bm07_map.pdf to see our location in relation to the rest of BRC.
We got shuffled last year to a location that was farther from Otters than some might have liked and we thrived! This year we are being challenged to hold down a civic plaza with the Otters and several familiar camps and fascinating new neighbors. If I am not mistaken, we are also a Leave No Trace eco-camp tour model village. That means that people who are interested are coming to see our infrastructure and systems. Lets rise to the occasion and offer as much as is comfortable to each other and to our fellow citizens. Lets create decoration and street edge worthy artinesses to our camp.

Please bring poles, poles and more poles as well as rebar stakes and rope, lots of rope. A gate or entrance would be cool, anyone feeling it?
I am bringing lots and lots of long colored streamers and flags, need pvc and metal wooden poles to put them on. We can create powerful color and movement with minimum effort.
Everyone, please step it up this year, offer whatever you can, cooperate with each other to pull off more ambitious ideas, ask how to help, what projects would be of greatest benefit to the collective. Please look at the old topics from previous year to see wish lists and ideas that need solidifying. Surprise yourself and others with some cool offering.

Hey all you bad-ass achievers.....really, I mean it. I'm SO PROUD to be a Raisin abroad, y'all are SO rockin' it......from my unusual perspective I see the Raisin posts and e-mails having ease and clarity and power...you may or may not feel that from your end, but I think all the gruelling soulful intelligent communication and hard work of previous years is naturally and expertly propelling you into a FABULOUS YEAR......really, your excellence is arriving on the playa ahead of you RIGHT NOW. And YES you get to relax and be congratulated right now!!! I don't care if yer "not there yet".......you ARE, as evidenced by that ticket in your hand.

Why should you believe me? Well, let me tell ya. Many of you saw my flickr slideshow on my trip to the Euro burn NOWHERE this summer. It was precious and potent and well-organized (ish). And one of my biggest insights was HOW FUCKING INCREDIBLY EXPERT/PRO/LEADING-EDGE RAISIN IS (and other equally bad-ass B-man villages). Maybe you can only see this when you've stepped as far away as I have. And yes, maybe comparisons are limited and yadda yadda yadda. But watch out PC police cuz here I come: American work eithic, ingenuity, creative genius and follow-through, when channelled into such an endevour of truth and beauty as this is a POWERFUL LEADER in the world. Yes I said American. Remember? That country you live in that has a gorgeous and completely unique culture? (that INCLUDES B-man) GOD yes, question it and critique it and change it. But don't lets forget to put the baby in the clean towell with Teddy before the murky bathwater gets chucked, huh kids? Really, all of my Euro friends can (and some WILL) be schooled by y'all. In fact look out for some randoms (from London especially) popping by on my suggestion. They are your family, I kid you not. Kiss their radical selves for me. And THANK YOU FOR BEING THE GLOBAL LEADERS THAT YOU ARE (it's hard work I know, but who said being on the cutting edge would be easy?) (don't for a minute cynacize my zeal, por favor...there's a diff. tween zeal and truth.....)

And no, this isn't just a rant from a homesick ex-patriot. Barcelona is rockin' me in many ways. As we speak stages and decorations are being errected right under my window for the annual festival for my neighborhood (Gracia)...we're talkin' 24-7 for a week. I'm building stilts right now, sewing new pants tomorrow, getting ready to hit the street with my guitar (even though the cops no like......bah! whatev). It's hot and the labyrinth of ancient tiny cobble streets in the gothic neighborhoods undulate with bodies and surreal buildings....think Matrix's Zion mixed with Spanish......okay I'm getting a little carried away, but SHIT it's pretty extremely wicked ("wick" as my london crowd sez).

We are offiicially a model camp!

BIG THANKS for signing on as a model camp in the first
LNT and Green Tour of the City at Burning Man!
Your camp, featured practices, and green programming
are part of the Green Guide and the Green Map offered
at Greeters and publicized throughout BRC. You’ll be
showcased along with other green places of interest,
e.g., the Green Pavilion, BRC renewable energy
infrastructure, recycling, solar arrays, recharging
stations, and educational venues.
We have camps of 6 up to a village of 500 peeps,
featuring everything from solar and wind energy to
less is more.
As in the past, the Tour is self guided and
participants can visit the camps with features that
interest them. In addition, Angie of Cinncinatti
Regional, earthguardian@scorchednuts.com, will be
conducting a bus and bicycle tour of green venues
Wednesday –Saturday, 5-6 pm and you are invited to
schedule a stop at your camp with her.
Please note:
Ø Between Monday and Tuesday (Wed. at the
latest) I’ll be coming by to meet and welcome you all
and drop of your signs and Green maps for display at
your camp. If you prefer to pick them up yourself at
the Earth Guardians Pavilion, that is fine, too, just
let me know.

Ø Wednesday, 6-8:00, Green Cocktail Mixer and
Discussion at the Earth Guardians Pavilion (Esplanade
and 5:45), open to the community. Participants in the
Green map will be our honored guests. Mark your
calendar!

Ø You are all automatically entered in the Camp
of the Day Contest, which recognizes and rewards (2
tickets to next year’s event)the camps that best
exemplify LNT and Green principles at Burning Man. I
personally am NOT a judge, but am recruiting judges to
help visit and review nominated camps. Please let me

LEAVE NO TRACE Planning Tips for Theme Camps

Black Rock City is like no other. It arises for
one week, and then only its utter disappearance
permits it to reappear the following year-so we
all need to Leave No Trace! But how do we do
that? Here is a summary of the practices that
the Earth Guardians have compiled to help you
plan your camp so that it Leaves No Trace.
(1) LNT Planning,
(2) REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE,
(3) Dispose of Waste Properly,
(4) Be an LNT member of our community,
(5) Burn Responsibly and
(6) Clean up.

Experience is showing that LNT is really a way to
camp smarter, not harder, on the playa. And a
clean, well organized City makes for good times.

(1) LNT PLANNING
Pick a LNT MOOP Czar. You can start by
identifying an LNT leader within your camp. This
person will work LNT into your planning, help set
up the camp so that it doesn't blow away, help to
plan your camp's cleanup and break-down ahead of
time, handle the questions of stinky trash, gray
water disposal, what to burn and what not to burn
and generally keep people feeling good about how
well they are treating the playa. In many small,
practical ways, these efforts will make your camp
easier and more pleasant to live in.

Prepare a LNT Plan, not just a Clean-up Plan. If
you plan and ahead and prepare to LNT, you'll
have less to haul up to the playa, have a happier
playa life and have less to clean-up at the end

Ensure that your Camp Structures and Shelters are
LNT. Stake your tents and structures so they
will stay secure in the heavy wind, rain, and
dust storms that are sudden and usual on the
playa. Also consider using materials that can be
reused or repurposed at home or at next year's
event. You'll have less cost and less disposal
headaches at the end of the event. You'll also
save money when preparing for next year.

Plan to avoid digging holes in the playa. Small
postholes (6 inches or less in diameter) used for
structural support are the sole exception. When
digging such a hole it is best to use an auger or
a posthole digger, NOT a shovel. Refill the hole
by carefully tamping the soil back into place.
Repeat this process every few inches while
dampening the soil. Larger holes easily erode
within a year's time, even when carefully
backfilled. They leave a visible mark and create
a serious safety hazard.

(2) REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE
Bring the Right Stuff, Leave The Rest Behind.
Everything you bring, you have to take home. Shop
smart and pack even smarter to leave behind what
you don't need. You'll need that extra space when
you come home; camping gear tends to expand when
covered in playa dust. Plan ahead to have a clean
and well organized camp.

Plan simple, low-dishwashing meals. Avoid
bringing tons of food, and don't bring food that
spoils. Experience says you won't want to do a
lot of cooking; you probably will never get
around to it. Eat finger foods (wraps,
sandwiches) that do not need individual plates.

Bring reusable cups, mugs, utensils, and
dinnerware. Disposable cups tend to blow all over
the playa. Ask visitors to your camp to BYOM
(bring your own mug). If you use paper plates,
save yourself a headache by scraping off the
food, then stack 'em and burn 'em. BYOM! The
Café and many fashionable bars welcome personal
cups, so you can carry one around the City,
easily attached with a carabineer or shower hook.

Repackage and prepare food in advance. Stock up
on sturdy plastic containers and dispose of the
plastic wrap, excess cardboard and other cruddy
packaging. Bring water in big reusable plastic
containers and have a personal canteen. Avoid
bringing glass bottles. There are many good beers
in cans! Check out

to find some good beer for this year! Decant your
beverage of choice into a flask. Remember that
every little shard of accidentally broken glass
must be picked up by hand, by someone. Nasty!

Separate and sort trash in your kitchen and
recycle. Bring containers labeled with clear
signs for separating food waste, recyclables,
burnables (paper and wood), and nonburnable
trash. Using mesh bags to dry food waste will
reduce the smell and amount of trash you
generate. Take aluminum cans to Recycle Camp.
Use tubs or sinks to wash dishes and collect grey
water. Seal the small amount of trash you have
left in big plastic bags or in five-gallon
buckets with tight lids. For more tips on keeping

(3) DISPOSE OF WASTE PROPERLY

If it doesn't come out of your body it doesn't go
into the Potty. Always use a potty for your body
waste - not the playa. Only toilet paper, single
ply, and human waste, can go in the potties.
Everything must be pumped through narrow pipes
before being trucked to the treatment plant.

How will you dispose of your grey water? An
evaporation pond is only one idea to keep solid
waste and liquid waste (like soap and fats) off
the playa. Some camps have developed technologies
to reuse their water. Others now collect their
grey water in a drum, then take the water to an
appropriate facility off playa or contract with
Johnny on the Spot to let a professional handle
the grey water. With 30 days notice, they will
provide a collection tank for you at the event
that they will pick up at the end for disposal.
If you want to construct an evaporation pond,
remember to keep it shallow (4 inches or less),
use black plastic, experiment with absorbent
materials hanging into the pond and be prepared
to siphon what doesn't evaporate. Do not dump
water from an evaporation pond on the playa
surface! Minimize shower use the last couple days
of the event to reduce amount of grey water that
you'll need to collect and haul home. The web

Beware of the Hungry Wind: Bring tethers,
anchors, containers, and covers to keep light
stuff from blowing away. When leaving Black Rock
City, secure your load, especially your trash.
Don't let your trash fly off your vehicle, and do
not dump it on the side of the road or at a rest
stop on the way home! Use an approved dumping
facility or take or home with you. Plan ahead
before you even pack for the playa so you leave
with a minimal amount of trash. Starting home,
take a rest stop early; at the entrance gate, at
a wide pullout, or maybe at the Empire store.
Check your load. It is most likely to fail early
in the trip.

(4) BE A LNT MEMBER OF OUR COMMUNITY
Promote LNT Neighbors: Be proud of your
neighborhood, work together with your neighbors
to keep your part of the city clean. Every year
some camps get overwhelmed and need help. The
seventh and final principle of LNT practice is
"be considerate of others," which in our city
includes helping neighbors to leave no trace. We
all enjoy the generosity of our theme camps,
artists, and fellow citizens. So look around and
pitch in to help keep things clean: offer a tool,
an extra hand, a gesture of thanks.

Be Prepared: Carry a MOOP bag and water as you
walk around your part of the city and out on the
playa. Our community works together to improve
our life on the playa, rather than rely upon
rules and regulations enforced by outsiders to
keep us in line. Talk to others and help them to
better understand how to leave no trace.

Don't bring cheap trinkets for gifts or barter.
Try giving a smile, a helping hand or a joke.
Thousands of 'gifts' end up as trash. And feather
boas, or ANYTHING that sheds, is a no-no: the
trash fence tells us so. You are the best gift.

(5) BURN RESPONSIBLY
Don't Burn on the Unprotected Playa. Burning Man
is all about burning; we've become the experts at
LNT Burning. Burning directly on the alkaline
playa BAKES the surface into a dark, hard
brick-like material.

Use community burn barrels or a burn platform.
Burn only untreated wood or paper and nothing
oversized that will spill ash or burning debris
onto the playa. Be sure the wood you place in the
burn platform is well contained. Don't overload
the burn platforms. Have tools on hand to break
down and cut up larger pieces. If a platform is
already full, be prepared to wait until there's
space to add your wood or try the next platform.

Don't burn anything that is toxic. You (or your
children) will regret it later! Burning
synthetics is a serious health risk. Do not burn
PVC (nasty dioxins), carpets, plastic, large
pieces of furniture (couches, futons, etc). or
anything treated, dyed or painted. And please
discourage anyone with a glass bottle from
throwing it into a fire. Glass doesn't burn. It
shatters! They're not dumping stations!

Be a Toxic Avenger. Keep an eye on the platforms.
Let others know that only wood and paper can be
burned here and nothing oversized. Tell them we
do this to protect the playa and our lungs. And
if you see someone being careless, explain why
they need to stop. Email

(6) CLEAN UP
Clean As You Go and Grid Your Camp at the End!
Don't wait until the end of the week to pick
stuff up. Clean as you go. This will help you
from getting overwhelmed by the mess and help
keep MOOP from blowing out of reach. Then, at
the end of our event, pack-up and load everything
(including all trash) into your vehicles, and do
a line sweep for every last bit of MOOP. Give
everyone a Ziploc bag, line them up along one
edge of camp, look down and slowly walk to the
other side. Make it fun! Cover your entire area
looking for those last bits of MOOP: every twist
tie, cigarette butt, food scrap, carpet fiber,
match, nut shell, staple, scrap of plastic
Ševerything. Start taking down your camp Sunday,
not at the last minute when patience and energy
are running low.

A Buried Stake Doesn't Disappear. Instead, its
hazard is magnified. Even when pounded below the
surface, a stake will slowly, inevitably, emerge
from the playa. Then it might be found during
the Bureau of Land Management's spring
inspection, producing a black mark against permit
renewal; or it might not be found until it tears
a tire or gashes a foot - maybe during next
year's event, maybe to a windsurfer or another
group that, like us, uses the playa. A pair of
vise-grips will almost always remove a stuck
stake. First clamp on the vise-grips and rotate
the stake back and forth, to break the playa's
grip. Then continue rotating and also pull
upwards. Ask neighbors for help. As a last
resort, make the stake highly visible by
fastening something to it. Someone else with
heftier tools will be able to get it out.

Devote Two Hours to General Cleanup in Black Rock
City! Each participant is asked to contribute
two hours to community cleanup before departure.
This means streets, Center Camp, Center Café, all
other public spaces, and open playa where stuff
may have been left behind. Stop by the Earth
Guardian camp during the week and on Sunday and
Monday and we'll direct you to the areas of the
City that need the most attention.

Join the post-event DPW clean-up crews. Help
deMOOP! The Bureau of Land Management must agree
that we've left no trace, that our site is more
than just clean in appearance. After the event,
random circular plots of our city are inspected.
Collected debris may not exceed an average of 1.0
square foot per acre, less than 23 parts per
million! No pits, bumps, burn scars, or buried
materials can be left behind. Volunteer to help
ensure that we come back next year!

Attention Blazin Raisin Village Members,

The part in the Blazin Raisin Funds and Pod Lists Letter that says

"we can make arrangements to transport some
individual pod structural needs. Keep in touch and let us know.
As always, extra couches, carpet, ambiance are welcome and needed. Collect what you can at garage sales and craigs list
this month and we will get it up there!"

IS NOT ACCURATE !!!!!

In the spirit of radical self reliance and responsible giving, those who chose to bring and offer anything are responsible for transport to and from the Playa, as well as any clean up .
Please note that the amount of infrastructure already being brought for camp will more than fill the vehicles allocated to the task and the personnel doing the loading , unloading, village layout, set-up, pod site direction and other logistical tasks will not be able to transport or handle individual pod materials.
If there is an item that HAS to come and is for usage of the collective ,please bring it to the attention of Brad or Adam and it can be handled on a per case basis as to whether the transport can fit it in or not.

The truck is starting for the playa on Friday the 16th of August from Marin County, going to Reno to pick up all the Village infrastructure and the early crew will be on Playa by the 20th so that things can get done by opening day on the 27th.To those interested in arriving early, sorry, early list was filled and filed a month ago. The gate becomes a little more relaxed from the 25th on(2 days before opening day), so if any Raisins wish to come early, thats when it is more possible.Say you are there to set up Raisin Village.

My fiance, Janie, will be joining us a few days later on Wednesday and needs a ride from the same area. She is a first timer and I definitely don't want her to have to drive herself up! Janie is an easy going, Tibetan Buddhist who won't have lots of stuff with her as our shared stuff will be heading up with me.

NOW we know our ABC's This time won't you sling (some of your sassy, so welcome and so needed self expression) with me!?!?! Scotty here. Whatchou doin' to add and contribute to the beauty of camp this year? I got some crazy new light sculptures for y'all! Quite a few capturing the green theme. Also, I'm thinkin of bustin a bar. No shit.
I've designed a sexy flowy bar with seating for 24 plus (!!!) people. Found 30 elementary school chairs I believe I can convert to barstools ( the size will be perfect for barstools) on craigslist for cheap. This'll also provide folks with a central and common place to munch food prepared in separate kitchens, thus serving to draw individual pods membes to the central living space and facilitate the collective experience. Will it come together? I believe so... I feel alot of passion for this project. I'll start it as a low table and raise it all up as and if time and dollars allow. Anyone want to help? Financially or otherwise?

Here is the new Blazin Raisin camp plan

The drawing in the photos section shows roughly how camp will be laid out this coming Burn.It also shows our proximity to our nearest neighbors and our probable placement between 3:00&3:30 and D&E streets.
As depicted in the schematic, the various pods will be arranged much closer around the center parachute. This arrangement allows for greater connection and interactivity between groups. The second parachute will shade Punta Mona pod, because of their number of people and they are going to erect it. All the space not labeled and the space marked "otter over flow" will accommodate Raisin members who are not in a pod grouping. There will be no public kitchen/bar unless someone decides to build and bring it.
A new feature this year is the incorporation of distinct Pathways as well as an Alleyway cutting straight through the block. These features will ease bike traffic and encourage greater interactivity with the Playa public. They will enable Raisin member cars to leave if necessary mid-event and also allow access for emergency vehicles.
Of course, on the Playa, the best laid plans must shift and bend to fit the unforeseen and the needs of our community. We will use the container of this Village to again make something truly amazing by all contributing our uniqueness to the whole.

Hi Raisins!!!
[first off, thanks for re-posting my old Raisin deep intent diatribe Adam! I hope it's still of use]

London is so phenominal, let me tell ya. Just packed with history and colors and music and ACTION, EASILY as bustly and goin-on as NYC, but with less skyscrapers and more endless gorgeous pedestrian playgrounds and a music scene that is easily in the top 3 in the world. AANNNNDDD................a short flight away from the euro-burn in Spain!!! My American friend colin and I scrambled last minute to spain for this little event called NOWHERE, and we didn't look back. What a great decision, and I have eagar Burn-virgin Colin to thank for motivating us. It was less than 200 people, humble yet grandiose, full of heart and many languages, truly a family of freaks. My London friend base has tripled, cuz so many good-hearted london freaks were at Nowhere.

Nowhere folks play big, but there's always that euro undertone of subtlety and simplicity and not a lot of drama (at least on the surface). The climate was the same as B-man, the terrain similar but not as flat, most of the time i felt I was on the playa proper. These pics show many highlights, such as the poetic signs on the way in, the beautiful london-based people of my home camp "the Burrow", picture of all of us on the trampoline, an awesome japanese tea ceremony (pic of the glowing geisha and me takin a sip of the tea), great art (check out the massive wind sock and the Moop Moster rolling toward center camp and the nighttime misty perf. art piece the Spaniards rocked). There's even a close-up of a bug for scottie!

Also check out me on the trampoline in a red jumpsuit and massive boxing gloves. We had a dance-off between camps on Sunday night, where somehow I got elected secret weapon mascot in a glittery velvet red jump suit and boxing gloves the size of pillows, like a cartoon. Before our (the Burrowers) bout with the Ninja Camp I was hidden under a blanket on a trampoline until the crucial moment, whereby the trampoline was carried out to the middle of the dance floor and I sprang up punching........those suckas got served.

Aloha Blazin Raisins!

The rumors are not true….Blazins will be on the playa once again this year ready to create that magical, heart centered, safe haven community space that feels like home. We apologize for the long lapse of communication. As you all know our busy lives take over in the days between playa fun. We are excited to hear from the pods and have the Best Year EVER!!!

Congratulations Raisins! : As many of you know, we received acknowledgement from the Earth Guardians last year as an example of a green camp. This year they have asked us to be models for other villages and will put us on the map as a place for folks to visit who want to learn how to be green! Exciting stuff and we are ready to STEP it UP!!!

This year's Green Man theme has inspired us organizers to focus and create Blazin Raisin as a living example of what we can do to have a smaller impact on both the sacred desert that becomes our home for a transformational week in our lives, and on the planet!

With this in mind, we have created the "Greener Blazin Raisin Plan" and as a part of this community we request all Blazin Pods to follow, improve upon, and take full responsibility for as members of Blazin Raisin.

The plan goes like this:

-10% of this years dues will go to a Carbon offset organization. We are attempting to mitigate our carbon production transportation costs, both to and from the Burn.

- Dramatic on site waste reduction by 60%.! This will mean effort on all pods to communicate with your podlings about the following requirements:

There are absolutely NO non reusable plastic water jugs allowed in camp. That's right. (We are a no watermelon no gallon water jugs in camp kinda place). 5-7 gallon reusable plastic jugs are awesome and can be filled up in Reno rather conveniently at the water oasis. Directions pasted at end of page.

-Buy in bulk! Precycle, and remove all excess packaging before heading to the playa! We encourage pods to also coordinate funds for your own pod in hopes of reducing waste. Meaning if you put into the pot of your pod, not everyone needs to bring pots, bags o chips, etc. The more we can pre-organize, the less waste we will create!

-Reduce MOOP!! (Material out of place). This was our greatest criticism from the Earth Guardians last year ----our trash scene was not together! So in effort to improve this, we are requiring each pod to have Real Trash Receptacles with lids! Each pod should have at least 4 to 6. Each Pod needs to have a recycling can, a compost receptacle, burnable trash receptacle, and removable trash receptacle. Imagine how awesome it will be to go from pod to pod and know exactly where to put your trash.

SETTING UP CAMP~ Scholarship Possibility

Bradley and Adam, otherwise known as BrAdam, have fine tuned the layout of this years camp. The layout creates a tighter

community around the parachute, alleyways, emergency access or car exit, and as always a beautiful design. We have registered and are waiting to here about our exact coordinates, but are hoping to go back to our location of 2 years ago directly across from the Otters. As always, we need every participant of Blazin Raisin to pitch in and help create the magic of the camp.

**We especially need a few strong members who can help BrAdam with setting up the parachute, coming to the playa early, and more then anything helping with the transportation (Loading and Unloading) of our camp. This has been our greatest hurdle and we would love to have the muscles of many to bring Raisin to the Playa. Please let us know who you are!!! We will offer full scholarship including ticket cost and camp dues to anyone who is available pre/post/and during to help set up, maintain, and breakdown camp. Whose it gonna be????**

If you are receiving this email but are not associated with one of the pods listed above, let us know. Minimum pod size is 5 people and you must be completely autonomous with your shade, kitchen, clean up etc.

As summer and life are busy, we are really trying hard to minimize one on one email communication. We are kindly requesting that all communication comes from your pod focalizers. Early admission for Raisin camp setup

This topic is an appeal for Raisin village members,old and new, to help early with camp set up. The shear size of the job of setup has yearly overwhelmed the few historically involved members who have been doing it. Without just a little more help to do it , those members are planning to do significantly less this year. The addition of just a few more hands and minds would allow camp to be as grand and comfortable as in past years or even more so. Please come early to help if you can.
Getting in early offers many benefits such as: greater physical adaptation to altitude and climate on the playa, the opportunity to see the city and the art form around you, a more relaxed and full playa experience, the comradeship of fellow BRC citizens and Village members and the deep satisfaction of offering to your community and contributing to their comfort in the inhospitable playa environs. It really is a very cool experience and well worth the extra effort/time/money to do.

There is a VERY limited number allowed on the gate list and we only wish to put people on it who think they can actually do it. The list must be submitted mid-july and cannot be changed afterwards. The gate is ABSOLUTELY CLOSED to early entry without being on the list this year as it has been in the last two years.

I've been VERY inspired lately to ABOVE ALL, ask you all and myself this question:
What is the deep intent of Blazin' Raisin? Chime in everybody. Why are we REALLY doing this?
First, I'll say that what I love about Blazin' Raisin this year was that our offering to the Playa, although still jelling, wasn't just a gimmick or a show or a direct service, but A WAY OF BEING that created a warm and magnetic vibe; it's that "Raisin' " thang (raisin' each other, raisin' consciousness, etc..) I know this sounds vague and maybe to some a cop-out in a city where theme camps are so good at being VERY (almost too much?) specific about what they are offering. And maybe we will continue to get more specific at least in the way that individual BR members will develop and grow their own personal offering to the larger community, and at MOST in terms of our evolving GROUP ideas. As to the latter, for now I really liked that our "Theme" was a vibe of softness, peace, refuge from the OONSE-OONSE subwoofer Playa reality, non-violent communication, omni-faith spirituality, and humility, just to name a few.

I really believe that BR can be a spiral dance of consciousness and joy and AUTHENTICITY AND FREEDOM (one thing that means is that even the “darker” thoughts and feelings are normal and welcome), and our combined love, excellence, genius, full-heartedness and health just keeps Raisin’ the energy swirling around the Parachute, such that all are lifted and cradled in that power. For me, THAT'S THE BEST KIND OF "SPECIFIC" SERVICE A GROUP THIS LARGE COULD OFFER: keep Raisin' consciousness, keep asking what our deep intent is, keep loving and accepting, keep being honest, keep spinning magic that heals and transforms, keep caring for the earth, keep spreading joy and hope. I guess as I'm looking at this it still has vagueness, SO PLEASE FILL IT IN, HELP ME. And it also has quite a bit of general new age churchiness, which I'm not sure is the whole picture. Anyway, I ramble.....

I have observed that the intent of Blazin Raisin camp has changed slightly over the last few years in response to getting MUCH larger than we used to be . Just 3 or 4 yrs ago, in response to size increases, some members started meeting to discuss direction and logistics way before the BM event . This allowed for individual & community needs to be recognized and in part , met . What was simply a FEW friends camping together became QUITE A FEW friends camping together . Certain ideas were proposed and experimented with, to differing levels of success . The core ideas have persisted and flowered beautifully .
Some of the intentions I have observed are : To create a supportive, welcoming emotional atmosphere. To have sufficient shade for large gatherings. To offer classes and services to our immediate community and the Playa public . To welcome new members into the village and the community . To support creative expession in many ways. To appreciate each other and the unique contributions each community member brings . To network and build bridges between different groups, on and off the Playa . To share . To boogie down together. To belong to a larger group than our regular circle of friends that we see more often . To share information on many topics . To gain reassurance from the company of like minded community in the face of rapidly accelerating madness in media and culture in the USA and the World. To gather material resources for community building infrastructure. To create bonds of trust and feelings of fellowship that would be of use in times of emergency . To practice living sustainably with little impact on the planet . To create an enviroment that supports individual and community growth . To have fun ,lots of fun .
These are a few of the intentions I have observed Raisins demontrating .

--For all you multiple-year Raisins, what are YOUR historical observations of our intent? Can someone touch on the Rainbow Gathering vibe that gave birth to the original Raisin Camp?

--Why are you a Raisin?

--How did you come to be a Raisin (hmmm...maybe we can start a family tree...no, a family VINE...grapes, get it? but I digress)?

Whale Sighting 1

Adam Baer is planning to put large scale art on the Playa this year. The plan is to create a near-life sized WHALE SKELETON out of recycled materials and place it out near the perimeter fence (2:00ish arm of brc) The spine will be made of white 5 gallon plastic buckets(have already),the ribs of a salvaged water tank(have already) ,the head & flippers & tail made of cardboard/plywood/fiberglass(have to procure).

Artist Direct Distribution Testing and June 07 launch!

Hey Raisin's,

It's been six month of intense work but it's now in final testing. Artist Direct Distribution is sort of like taking the best of CD baby, Myspace and Flicker and making one killer website for artists.

As many of you know, I have been on a long quest to empower musicians and artists and like you, sick and tired of others taking away control and revenue from us to promote and sell our music and art.

Take a look, sign up free and run through the tutorials (online movies) Public launch will be taking place sometime in June 07. I have a survey where you can anonymously tell me your thoughts. Profiles are still in development but most services are working. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, ideas and opinions.

Village registration and re-visioning

The due date for village registration is May 31st ,it is being handled by several Raisins.
Bradley and Adam have come up with new plans for Blazin Raisin village, soon to be posted.
There are some really large changes pending in camp organization,member numbers,logistics and physical layout. Please refer to this site to get updates as they are released. A planning meeting is happening soon. All historically involved Raisins who wish to let their views/opinions/needs be known, please write them down in one of the several topics on this site and that info will get to the meeting. Those Raisins who wish to be more involved in the direction BR is headed, please contact each other and the people you noticed last year who seemed to know what was going on.
The several organizing Goddesses who have done this work in past years(Suzie K.,Elana,A.J.& more) are unable to do so this year, so it is up to every Raisin to stay in contact with each other to coordinate stuff.
The power team of early-arrival camp set up(Bradley,Adam, Rich,Dave, Heather,Daylon& more) is losing numbers and Chi-Energy for that particular task. If camp is to have the level of amenities it has had in past years, more people with fresh energy are needed to participate in that phase of camp life. Without help,those who have done this part in the past, won't do so this year to the comfortable levels that people have come to associate with Blazin Raisin. If any Raisins feel motivated to do so, please contact Adam&Bradley about being involved in set up and early entry procedures.

Our location will put us in a great position to see most of it. Max

Ohhhhhh!! Mmmmm!! My heart is dripping as I flip through all your precious pictures and feel the warm Playa still kissing my soul’s skin. And though my own camera was barely used, the pictures come flooding in from the flash cards at the back of my brain……

At work today my breath catches as my hand comes away from my screw gun tingling with that magic…white….dust.

Here’s Susie K Dancin’ in the Dust for the first time as we roll along the long car line into BRC. The best drug on the Playa (other than sleep), that “Belly Burn Churn” that grabs you as you warp onto the Blessed Cracked Lakebed, has infected us and we can’t stop smilin’ and giving Altoids out to complete strangers.

Here’s me getting spanked by our greeter (Susie, whas her name again?). Even though I’m not a Playavirgin, she gives me the option and I bashfully (NOT) oblige. I think she likes my ass, because she spends more time stroking it than spanking it. Ohhhh…if this is wrong, I (SLAP) don’t (stroke) wanna (sssslap) be (ssssttttroke) right!!

And Here…….Are……..Words…….Every……50 ………Feet……..Welcoming……..Us………E.G. : “There is Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself”

And here is Susie K delivered safely to her EarlyEarly Crew Superhero Boyfriend Adam. He has already styled her bike and they are blinking and kissing and closing the tentflap…..

And here is Susie and Adam and Brad and Daylon at the coolest early week runway-laden disco on the Playa. Smiling from fuzzy ear to fuzzy ear, raising big carpet dust to the BeeGees while approving mannequins look on lustily.

And here I am with soap in my eyes running blindly behind the Water Truck handing my lavender soap around the slippery bodies when I realize that one of the bodies is my friend Tani whose address in BRC coulda been anything but has ended up at Yodel Camp right next to us!

Here I am coming home to BR 4am with Gingalicious on the Night of the Burn and us swimming past and under lighted jellyfish within the larger jellyfish of the parachute in the blissful breeze. We have just come from exploring the sparsely-charted outer space that is the deep playa. Are we now getting swept back in to a deeper microcosmic deep Playa? But wait, who is this feaux-furred salt-n-peppa bearded magician laugh-crying toward us? I guess we’re not in Uchronia anymore, Toto.

And here are many devotees kissing the feet of Scottee and Erika after reading the Playafied Surgeon Generals warning on the Pleasure to Burn poster.

And here we are emerging up onto the crow’s nest to find Todd taking a dangerous nap in his sleeping bag at 34’ altitude! (he says it’s the best sleep he’s had…now THAT’s Pleasure to Burn!!)

And here I am with Solar and her Playaguy Adam on a circular spaceship artcar orbiting through the timeless night with Bits-O-Honey, Blankets, and the Deepest Slowest Grrrrooooves ever delivered by a DJ in Burningman History.

And here I am on the back of the Gingalicious Trike warming my hands on the creamy and furiously pedaling thighs of the Sweet and Spicy One as the silky deep Playa floats by. We come upon a lighted tube gurgling little brook sounds with a journal and pen dangling from a string holding entries about love and addiction……

And here is Barleycorn Capitan Erectomungus 7am popping up the ladder that comes out of the tophole of his yurt, cracking a gorgeous crusty barely-awake (Barley-awake?) smile down upon me, successfully competing with the infant sun.

And here I am laughing with Atrea and Jesse on a couch in center camp. I’m giddy from my 7am gig singin my guts out, Atrea has produced a drool-enducing iced double mocha jus fo me, and my outfit is black, deeply striped and easily my favorite.

And here I am getting totally smooched at the Deep End by the hottest and smartest redhead from Seattle. I can still feel the place where she squeezed my butt…….mmm-MMM….this recovering dorky seventh-grader is almost disbelievin’!!

Already small groups have met and disscussed their ideas , NOW is the time to let the larger community know your views on this subject so that informed decisions can be made to guide us to our goal of collective harmony . PLEASE use the resource of this site to make yourself known , ALL sugestions/opinions and especially complaints are welcomed(complaints will lead us to address an unmet need we may not have been aware of) . Storage & final wrap of camp

I have just returned from Capt. Roberts in reno where, with alot of help from scottie, erica, robert and ari I have put camp to bed for the year,... which included adding a section of tarped storage to the existing shed and filling a uhaul for a dump run.
our current storage is very dense with carpets and lumber comprising most of the space.

Robert and I surveyed his yard for plans to build a barn where the Russian's and Raisin's sheds stand,... I have made drawings of a barn which may be built in time for next years burn. Robert is very happy to continue being our storage depot and would like help building the barn and purchasing some of the materials. we can discuss this in more detail closer to the time of building.

Thank you to everyone who carried camp on their backs and in ther vehicles to and from the playa.
special thanks to Adam, Rich, Eric, and Ari for shouldering large hunks of the mountain that is our portable village.

Update on the angels in the hospital...

Thank you ALL for your thoughts and prayers. We absolutely felt the energy and love pouring from so many sources into the healing. The power of thought and prayer is soo awesome.

Serena has bounced back to her sweetest little budda strong three year old self. Every one else that was also in the accident is also going to be ok. It is truly a miracle.

But, the accident has also pushed us powerfully into further "right action." Tristan has chosen to take primary responsibility for his girls. It is a beautiful act, but is bringing some major change into my/our lives. I have the honor of stepping into this role with him, and his two sweetest angels and him are now looking for another home for all of us to move into/ and or we might just keep staying in my little two bedroom in Santa Rosa.

All this to say, that JUST TODAY I decided I can not go to burningman. I am pretty devastated about the idea of not prancing freely with loved ones in the vast openness of the playa, but I am committed to this new family, and little Aurora starts kindergarten next Wednesday. Such is...

I already sent in payments to AJ for my mom, Bliss and I - but I am happy for that money to just stay in the camp, so don't worry about a refund. I've already spoken with Susie K so I assume the early early tickets will be well used.

Two Peas in Search of a Pod

Hello Raisins!

Oooo! With BM just around the corner, the excitement is brewing over here on the East Coast as well!

In preparation for the big adventure, we thought we’d put it “out there” that, while fully prepared to be our own pod, we’d also welcome joining a larger pod if the opportunity presented itself. In addition to being our loving, playful selves, we are generous spirits, happy to contribute to a larger pod society any way we can. The logistics of airplane travel limits us some in terms of what we can physically bring, but we’re more than happy to make Reno purchases or pack small items that are needed/desired on behalf of our pod. We’ll be arriving to the playa on the 26th to help set up. And since we can cook up a storm, we’re more than happy to contribute a pod meal!! Any takers?

My angel's in Stanford intensive care, Early Early spots may be available.

Howdy loves. Just have to send you all a little warning, that my burning man plans may have to change dramatically.

My sweet angel Serena was in Stanford's pediatric intensive care unit for a week and was just released yesterday. Things look incredibly better for her, and we are sooooo blessed that she did not suffer more permanent injuries, but there will still be rehab for her, and I am just not sure what Tristan and I are going to need to do for the rest of this month. I'll copy a little post about the accident below, but mostly just need you all to know that I might not be filling two of those ten early early spots on the list.

Wanted you all to know what’s going on for me. Got Another reminder about what is really important in life. love, family, friends and health.

I didn’t take the time to notify many, but I wanted you to share with you that my sweet little angel Serena (Tristan’s three year old) was in the hospital for seven days from last Monday night. Tristan's ex-partner Tawnie was in a car accident with both girls, Aurora and Serena, and another young friend Jala and her mom. She fell asleep while driving with them all sleeping in back. That very morning I had been sleepy while driving out to Clearlake for a hearing and I had stopped myself feeling awful and thinking agh what if I was with the girls. Egads. It is horrible.

We were truly blessed that things were not worse. Aurora and Tawnie are fine. Poor Aurora was found in a bunch of blankets in the van and has been up with great grandma playing ever since. (though I am really concerned that she get brought home soon to start processing with us). Everyone else got ejected and Tawnie had to find the bodies and bring them over to lie next to Aurora (still totally awake and traumatized) while highway patrol and emergency vehicles were arriving.

Serena was brought immediately to Medford hospital near Oregon, and then flown to Stanford pediatric care Tues evening. We're were with her every moment, doing shifts with her Tawnie and grandparents. We had an extremely beautiful support network around us.

There was issues with her lung and breathing and blot clotting on the right side of her little head. She was awake, for the most part but not using words. Lots of moans and cries. She was in a lot of pain, but all of it seemed to pass amazingly quickly and by Sunday she was giggling and wide eyed and said the word yellow and momma.

She woke up Monday morning just talking! And giggling more... and even walked a bit with daddy's help. Children are sooo resilient. I can hardly believe the week we went through and now it seems like it never happened! Well - we will be following up with speech and occupational therapy, but she only had to 'catch up' to three year old capacity, so it should all be really smooth.

Serena was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and after the sweetest night resting between Tristan and I at my house, left yesterday to head back to the farm in Ukiah.

Tristan wants to care for both girls in Santa Rosa with me for a while. The medical care will be better than Ukiah, but we are still in discussions with momma and trying to work everything out lovingly.

Serena's little friend Jala and her mom Sia also had very difficult processes and sadly were in separate hospitals up in Redding and Yreka (near Or. border). But miraculously both were released the same day as Serena and all are getting super loved with family now.

Please continue to pray for all three. Sweet Serena, beautiful Jala, and Mama Sia.

Yes, yes! All Ye Cats and Kitties and Otherwise Scrumptious Feline Humans.......

In reading the most recent thorough and thoughtful Blazin’ Newsletter, I'm inspired to further crystallize some of Blazin' Raisin's purpose and value as it occurs to me. To qualify the following abundant verbiage, I should say that I am not coming from an official capacity, but as an oldie/newbie. That is, I’ve been attending B-man infrequently since 1995, I am very close (daily!) with many of the lovely originators of Blazin’ Raisin (attending meetings, participating in discussions), and only officially camped with BR last year for the first time (although I was STOKED to camp with the predecessor Raisin Camp at Rainbow 2004). This is just my brainy/lovey way of contributing to the BR way. I hope it can serve you well.

As I read the Newsletter I thought that some of you may still be asking: "Hmmmm.....what is Blazin' Raisin really all about? I see the lists, explanations, instructions and groovy visions from that last wonderful Newsletter and previous e-mails, and I still can't quite see the full PICTURE of what it is we're doing here. What is my $50 donation going to? What EXACTLY are we creating with our money and our love and energy?"

I’m gonna assume these are questions floating out there, at least as fuel for my little perspective. In concert with the accurate and skillful e-mails that have been written already, I want to further crystallize what our Village is and how our donations support that existence.

Burning Man is a huge and glorious VISION REALIZED. This whole thing is nothing less than a CULTURAL REVOLUTION. For us, Blazin’ Raisin—that is, YOU and I and the stunning village we have created before, NOW, and after—can be a blessed and beautiful and LOVING facet in the Burning Man prism.

I think this happens through the Burningman principles of “Communal Effort: our community values creative cooperation and collaboration.” and “Participation: our community is committed to a radically participatory ethic.” I like to think we at Blazin’ Raisin are humbly and joyously gifting our healthy, healing, VITAL, green, balanced, rockin’, artistic, musical, LOVING selves to the PLAYA. In other words, as much as we wonder what we RECEIVE with our money and energy, we can wonder what we can GIVE with it. That is an important and wonderful part of Burningman. I also feel really excited when I think that Blazin’ Raisin can be such a powerful CONTAINER for strength, leadership, SOUL, and having a voice and PRESENCE in the cutting edge of human culture and society that Burningman is.

Yeah! Okay! I know this is a lot of big talk, and WHY NOT??!! Let’s get in the mood!!! Isn’t seeking logistical clarity and peace more fun and effective if we really take some big brush strokes at the soulful painting this is?

Now, on with how we express this through donations and their destinations. And MAN! when I look at the below list I wonder “how did this get so involved and huge??!!” and then I realize that it really wasn’t planned this way. As Adam said in his eloquent history of our camp, IT JUST ORGANICALLY EVOLVED INTO THIS. We’re still learning as we go and we are awestruck, excited, and FLEXIBLE as we ride this wave. Woohoooo!

SHADE/UNITY SPACE: This is the heart, where our traditional intention of being a “sweet, chill refuge from the hyper-yang tempo of the playa” is realized and from which our expression and contribution to Burningman springs. The massive mast and billowing parachute are topped this year by a new lookout crow’s nest (expertly welded with love by Daylon). This jellyfish of a shade structure is so big IT STANDS OUT IN SATALLITE PICTURES OF THE CITY!!
Also present is the cooling and cradling Bedouin Tent and the state-of-the-art Community Meal Kitchen (both designed and crafted by Bradley the Genius).
There is divine lighting and decoration birthed by Scottee and others (what is a community space, if it’s not well-lit and beautified?).
Shade, comfort, light, and beauty: essentials that are priorities in our organized vision. Costs for this add up when transporting these large and heavy materials, and the materials themselves are often discounted and used (many donated), but still costly. All the labor is given freely with LOVE.

WATER: We each bring water for ourselves. AND, we like to purchase water as a group so that there is an abundance for community kitchen clean-up, emergency back-up, foot baths in the Shade/Unity Space, and possibly some extra for community showers (if they get built).

ENERGY: It's unlikely we'll be acquiring a Bio-Diesel Generator this year (quite possible for next year). Meanwhile, the gasoline generator requires gas and oil for the occasional DJ grooves and blender sessions (during which we can plug in and charge up our batteries and such) Also, our one solar panel is insufficient for all the Unity Space lighting. Depending on how many people donate early (now-ish), we hope to add some more solar panels and batteries so that there is MORE than enough juice for lights and MAYBE even provide some power for LOW-DRAW efficient lighting systems in the Pods (LED's and small light strands).

PARTIES: We are traditionally a “mellow” camp. Sprouting out of this relaxing scene are two amazing parties that unify and celebrate the village and spread the Raisin LOVE into the stratosphere. Food and drink and other supplies will be bought.

SHOWERS?: Although the pods do their own shower thang, if someone is inspired enough to gift their labor in the building of large community evaporation pools for showers and other waste water, they could be reimbursed for the (hopefully recycled/asgreenaspossible) materials.

OTHER MINOR INFRASTRUCTURE: As was said in the Newsletter, small essentials like white boards, kitchen utensils/pots/buckets/composting gear, dry ice, propane, ALL FOR THE USE OF VILLAGE UNITY AND CELEBRATION, are funded by donations as well.

INFRASTRUCTURE TRANSPORTATION: To schlep all of this to the playa, a van is being rented for two weeks so that the early builders can set up in time for opening day. And gasoline for that van is quite a sum.

Again, it occurs to me that this all looks so official and decided. Really, this is all an experiment being conducted by loving, wacky, breathtakingly intelligent, soulful people who are also pulling together their own personal B-man preparations on top of organizing this, on top of their jobs and busy lives. And I get a sense that this isn’t a rigid structure into which we are indoctrinated. It is a painting that changes and breathes, an affirmation of what is and could be. And as that great vision very simply requires money and energy, I hope it also can be realized with deep-heartedness, soul, and HUMOR.

I may be willing to pick you up in the Bay Area IF YOU ARE READY AND WAITING FOR ME, and especially if you can meet me in the South or East Bay.

If you've never arrived this early, this may be the year for you! I HIGHLY recommend it: you're there for part of the city's birth, you get to establish your Playa rhythm/acclimation early so you can go deeper, see more later. IT'S QUIETER THAT EARLY, PEACEFUL. You're gettin more bang for your buck and energy. PLUS, YOU GET TO BE ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF BLAZIN RAISIN BIRTH!!!!

Early Arrivals to the Playa...

Hey y'all,
There are two lists that Burning Man wants from us as a village:

1. Early Arrival Approved List for entries prior to 12:01 am Saturday, August 26.
and
2. Early Arrival Weekend List for entries prior to 12:01 am Monday, August 28.

I need to know who is going to be there EARLY, as in Before 12:01 am Saturday, August 26.
There are only TEN (10) Early Arrivals allowed per village, and they must be on a list AND have their tickets in hand. I am compiling this list, and it is comprised of heroic, generous, and hardworking individuals who are setting up the infrastructure of Raisin Camp.

I am planning to submit our Raisin Camp Early Arrivals info to the Burning Man Administration this Friday, so please let me know by then. And please let me know if you are arriving before 12:01 am Saturday, August 26, or before 12:01 am Monday, August 28... it makes a difference because only ten people are allowed earlier, and they want two separate lists from us.

EARLY ARRIVALS

In order to be admitted to the city before the start of the event at
12:01 am on Monday, August 28, you MUST be on the Early Arrivals List
AND have your ticket in hand. Having one or the other will not work.
You MUST have BOTH in order to gain entry into the city.

Early Arrival Process and Approval Criteria

Just as in previous years due to BLM restrictions, only a very
limited number of theme camp participants can be admitted to the city
prior to 12:01 am Saturday, August 26. Additionally, also due to BLM
requirements, everyone admitted to the city prior to the start of the
event at 12:01 am Monday, August 28 must be on the early arrivals
list. If your camp would like to have participants enter the city
early, we need to receive two lists from your camp by Monday, July
17.

First List: Early Arrival Approved List for entries prior to 12:01
am Saturday, August 26. This is the very short list of key members
of your camp required for early setup. Just like other years, we
will not be able to accommodate all of the requests. Here are the
early arrival criteria we will use to prioritize your requests:

a. Building your camp or art project is the best reason to deserve
early arrival. If you have complex stuff you deserve to enter early
enough to not spend the whole event working.
b. Camps with high interactivity will get preferential treatment over
camps that give less.
c. There is a maximum of 10 people per camp.

The earliest anyone can arrive is Monday, August 21st.

Second List: THIS IS NEW THIS YEAR! Early Arrival Weekend List for
entries between 12:01 am Saturday, August 26 and 12:01 am Monday,
August 28. This list will not be subject to an approval process, but
all individuals must be affiliated with a theme camp and must be on
the list to be admitted prior to the official start of the event.

Exclusion/Incusion/Selectivity/Clickishness inPod formation

Some concerns have been expressed about Exclusion/ Inclusion/Selectiveness/Clickishness in Pod formation . If I might add some info and my personal opinions on this matter :
Raisin Camp started on the tailgate of Elana's truck 6 years ago (at Omar's ) with 4 people and no shade . For the next few years , Raisin numbers increased , rarely exceeding 20 people . In 2004 , for some reason, that number more than doubled . The same thing happened again last year and some people noticed a strained feeling in regard to infrastructure(kitchen use/cleanliness/trash/elbow room)and public permability(unknown random people crowding the scene/eating without asking/ect.) . We are now numbering 150+ PEOPLE , all are beloved friends who CHOOSE to camp together for the great homespace vibe we have sucessfully created year after year . Pods are a way that we can all camp together as close neighbors without the hassles of everyone being in each others space/face/grocceries/kitchen/groove . Hopefully with a combination of better site planning(pod grouping/clear boundries between public and private spaces) and
a committed group of people willing to do neccissary camp maintance tasks, will allow Raisin Camp to continue to function smoothly and offer great vibes . Radical self-reliance + cooperation+ participation = community fun. This is pleasurable practice in community building , necissary in these crazy times .

All of the above merely frames my personal request to all Raisins : Please set aside any ideas of
Inclusion/Exclusion/Selectivity/Clickishness and instead embrace the neccisary reorganization of Raisin Camp by grouping up in Pods of 2 to 20 people .

Please post to this site your intention/pod numbers and-or
contact Indria/Elana/AJ/Susie K. to coordinate your pod's inclusion . Also those who are coming solo or in small numbers , please consider joining with others to form conglomerate pods . Space will quickly become
very limited , sooner your group communicates , sooner space can be allocated . Random drop-in campers on the Playa WILL be turned away , so DO NOT tell everybody " hey, come camp with us" This is neccisary to make room for the number of Raisin campers already anticipated . I really do wish it could be all relaxed like it used to be but that is how we got this big and we need to see how the pods idea will work and get group concensus before expanding furthur . Theoretically, pod grouping organization would allow for near infinate expansion .
Hopefully this communication will be seen as intended , a offer of info and a request .

so, this is what they had to say today....

LIVE PLANTS

Live plants die on the playa. Ask anyone that has brought them.
They always make a mess. In our history no one has ever brought in
plants, trees, or palm fronds without creating a M.O.O.P. (Mater Out
of Place) disaster. Every sight that has used them in any quantity
has cost the clean up crew days and days of work post event.

There have been a couple of camps that have successfully brought out
sod, but they have been few and far between. Thought we do not
recommend the use, there are some tried and true techniques to
containing it that we are happy to discuss with a phone call.

The Gate, Earth Guardians and DPW clean up crew are highly sensitized
to the issue and keep a close eye out for anything that enters our
city. They will stop you at the gate or come and find you. They
have been known to incinerate projects before they were even begun.

Please support us in this effort. Help us keep the clean up crew
sane! Plastic plants work just as well and look better with a quick
watering.

Please leave your live plants behind.

FIRE AND OPEN FLAME WITHIN THEME CAMPS

This is the final final official word on fire.

Everyone enjoys a camp fire to gather around or the light of a tiki
torch to guide them back to camp at night but fire and open flame
present a unique set of challenges on the playa. Wind is an
ever-present aspect of the Black Rock desert and must be taken into
consideration. Winds can blow sparks and embers out of fire barrels
and blow them across the open playa great distances until they settle
against something (tents, shade structures, camping gear, art works,
etc). Wind is also a factor with tiki torches and taller flame
effects. Precautions should be taken to prevent the wind from
knocking them over and a sufficient perimeter around them kept clear
from flammables. To help you prepare for and use open flame or flame
effects in you camp we have created these guidelines to help keep you
camp safe and to protect the safety of participants please read them
thoroughly.

Guidelines for open flame, burn barrels, Tiki torches, etc. within
theme camps:

1. No fire barrels or open flames shall be left unattended. At least
one camp member will be designated fire tender and be within visual
distance at all times. If found unattended while lit, open flames or
burn barrels may be extinguished and/or confiscated if there is
sufficient hazard.

2. If winds pick up, all open flames must be put out immediately and
burn barrels must be extinguished if they begin to throw sparks.

3. Open flame above 10 feet tall shall be secured from the wind and
safety perimeter increased appropriately to the hazard.

4. Open flames or burn barrels must be extinguished at the request of
any Ranger or Emergency Services personnel.

5. A 20' area around the fire must be free of any flammable materials
such as cloth, paper, tents, plastic, etc.

6. All liquid fuels must be kept at least 50' away. Please check out
the guidelines for the storage of fuels at Burning man.

7. A supply of at least 5 gallons of water and a fire extinguisher
must be kept on hand to extinguish the fire in case of high winds
(wind can blow embers and sparks a long distance on the playa!) or
other hazardous conditions.

8. Burn barrels shall be anchored to the playa and constructed in a
way that the burning surface is at least 6 inches from the playa to
prevent baking or scaring of the playa surface.

9. A special note about starting fires with Gasoline: Gasoline is a
very dangerous fuel to use to start fires because explosive vapors
can instantly build up as it is applied and as the fire is lit it can
flash and burn you!!

Guidelines for flame effects within theme camps.

1. No large scale flame effects using 40 or more gallons of fuel.

2. No pressurized liquid fuels are to be used within the camping area.

3. Flame effects shall be anchored to the playa and constructed in a
way that the burning surface is at least 6 inches from the playa to
prevent baking or scaring of the playa surface

4. If winds pick up, all flame effects must be extinguished.

5. Flame effects above 10 feet tall shall be secured from the wind
and safety perimeter increased appropriately.

Material Culture form. You can pick up and fill out a form at the
Artery (they'll be in the Material Culture box) or you can print one

REMEMBRANCE PLAQUE FOR BURNERS LOST

Since 1996, Burning Man has created a plaque to commemorate members
of our community who have passed away. We would like to carry on
this tradition and honor those who have impacted our Burning
experiences and participated in making Burning Man happen. This is a
call out to you, our community, to please let us know of any burners
lost who you feel should be added to the Remembrance Plaque. Please

TRAMPOLINES

Are you bringing one out? When trampolines are not monitored they
can lead to accidents that could cause injury and liability. Please
monitor your trampolines whenever they are available for the public
to use. Please make them inaccessible when you are not able to
monitor them.

AMPLIFICATION

The playa is a natural amplifier and it doesn't take much to produce
a large amount of sound. Bass travels multi-directionally and cannot
be absolutely contained with any structures. This gives sound as an
art form an unfair advantage over other art forms. Burning Man is
dedicated to radical self-expression, but it is also dedicated to
creating community. We all must find a way to get along with our
neighbors. As a community, we need to work together to keep sound at
desirable levels. This means that everyone involved is personally
responsible for how they affect everyone else's experience. If your
neighbor believes your sound is too loud, you must work with them to
find an acceptable volume. You will need to check in with those that
you are camped near to find out what other events are planned and
work with them to create a schedule. With these actions you should be
able to handle all of your own sound issues. If everyone works
together there will be no need for Black Rock Rangers to monitor
sound.

Sound Policy
The following four rules make up our basic sound policy:

1. Neighbors should talk to one another when sound becomes problem
and try to resolve the issue through direct communication.

2. Large-scale sound installations MUST be located along streets 2:00
and 10:00. They may express themselves at unlimited volume unless the
community complains.

3. A maximum power amplification of 300 watts is permitted behind
this Large Scale Sound Art Zone in greater Black Rock City.

4. Any concerns about sound will become a concern of the Black Rock
Rangers if a complaint is made within a few hours of the conflict.
Concerns about excessive sound can result in:

a) volume check and mediation between camps,
b) volume check and a final warning on complaints,
c) disabling of equipment.

(NOTE: Rangers will not take action on issues of taste.)

LSSA
All large scale sound art systems will be located along streets 2:00
and 10:00 (the two outermost edges of our city). Like all theme
camps, these camps will be encouraged to be as creative and
interactive as possible. The primary rule is that all speakers MUST
be turned away from greater Black Rock City toward the open playa at
all times.

Placing a large vehicle directly behind speakers does WONDERS to keep
sound from moving back into Black Rock City proper. If you drive a
large truck to the event it must be placed behind the sound system.
Elevating the speakers off the ground is also highly recommended

Mutant Vehicles
All sound regulations apply to mutant vehicles driving through our
city and on the open playa. Please watch your volumes as you drive
by performances or events in progress or through the city proper.

STRUCTURES

Large structures need to be secured properly. All designs are
strongly advised to include safety provisions. For more on this,

Remember, any structure that could hold many people should be
monitored to make sure that weight loads are not exceeded. They
should also be built with separate entrances and exits. Anything
over 15 feet high and anything made of scaffolding should be
carefully considered for safety. It is always helpful to get a
structural engineer to look over your design before arriving on the
playa.

Towers are great for climbing and will attracted great interest. You
should be prepared to monitor your towers and make them inaccessible
when you can not.

available to assist you with any questions about
cleaning up and much more, but read on to and see
if they are not answered here already!

LEAVE NO TRACE Planning Tips for Theme Camps

Black Rock City is like no other. It arises for
one week, and then only its utter disappearance
permits it to reappear the following year-so we
all need to Leave No Trace! But how do we do
that? Here is a summary of the practices that
the Earth Guardians have compiled to help you
plan your camp so that it Leaves No Trace.
(1) LNT Planning,
(2) REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE,
(3) Dispose of Waste Properly,
(4) Be an LNT member of our community,
(5) Burn Responsibly and
(6) Clean up.

Experience is showing that LNT is really a way to
camp smarter, not harder, on the playa. And a
clean, well organized City makes for good times.

(1) LNT PLANNING
Pick a LNT MOOP Czar. You can start by
identifying an LNT leader within your camp. This
person will work LNT into your planning, help set
up the camp so that it doesn't blow away, help to
plan your camp's cleanup and break-down ahead of
time, handle the questions of stinky trash, gray
water disposal, what to burn and what not to burn
and generally keep people feeling good about how
well they are treating the playa. In many small,
practical ways, these efforts will make your camp
easier and more pleasant to live in.

Prepare a LNT Plan, not just a Clean-up Plan. If
you plan and ahead and prepare to LNT, you'll
have less to haul up to the playa, have a happier
playa life and have less to clean-up at the end
of the week. See an example LNT plan:

Ensure that your Camp Structures and Shelters are
LNT. Stake your tents and structures so they
will stay secure in the heavy wind, rain, and
dust storms that are sudden and usual on the
playa. Also consider using materials that can be
reused or repurposed at home or at next year's
event. You'll have less cost and less disposal
headaches at the end of the event. You'll also
save money when preparing for next year.

Plan to avoid digging holes in the playa. Small
postholes (6 inches or less in diameter) used for
structural support are the sole exception. When
digging such a hole it is best to use an auger or
a posthole digger, NOT a shovel. Refill the hole
by carefully tamping the soil back into place.
Repeat this process every few inches while
dampening the soil. Larger holes easily erode
within a year's time, even when carefully
backfilled. They leave a visible mark and create
a serious safety hazard.

(2) REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE
Bring the Right Stuff, Leave The Rest Behind.
Everything you bring, you have to take home. Shop
smart and pack even smarter to leave behind what
you don't need. You'll need that extra space when
you come home; camping gear tends to expand when
covered in playa dust. Plan ahead to have a clean
and well organized camp.

Plan simple, low-dishwashing meals. Avoid
bringing tons of food, and don't bring food that
spoils. Experience says you won't want to do a
lot of cooking; you probably will never get
around to it. Eat finger foods (wraps,
sandwiches) that do not need individual plates.

Bring reusable cups, mugs, utensils, and
dinnerware. Disposable cups tend to blow all over
the playa. Ask visitors to your camp to BYOM
(bring your own mug). If you use paper plates,
save yourself a headache by scraping off the
food, then stack 'em and burn 'em. BYOM! The
Café and many fashionable bars welcome personal
cups, so you can carry one around the City,
easily attached with a carabineer or shower hook.

Repackage and prepare food in advance. Stock up
on sturdy plastic containers and dispose of the
plastic wrap, excess cardboard and other cruddy
packaging. Bring water in big reusable plastic
containers and have a personal canteen. Avoid
bringing glass bottles. There are many good beers
in cans! Check out

beverage of choice into a flask. Remember that
every little shard of accidentally broken glass
must be picked up by hand, by someone. Nasty!

Separate and sort trash in your kitchen and
recycle. Bring containers labeled with clear
signs for separating food waste, recyclables,
burnables (paper and wood), and nonburnable
trash. Using mesh bags to dry food waste will
reduce the smell and amount of trash you
generate. Take aluminum cans to Recycle Camp.
Use tubs or sinks to wash dishes and collect grey
water. Seal the small amount of trash you have
left in big plastic bags or in five-gallon
buckets with tight lids. For more tips on keeping

(3) DISPOSE OF WASTE PROPERLY

If it doesn't come out of your body it doesn't go
into the Potty. Always use a potty for your body
waste - not the playa. Only toilet paper, single
ply, and human waste, can go in the potties.
Everything must be pumped through narrow pipes
before being trucked to the treatment plant.

How will you dispose of your grey water? An
evaporation pond is only one idea to keep solid
waste and liquid waste (like soap and fats) off
the playa. Some camps have developed technologies
to reuse their water. Others now collect their
grey water in a drum, then take the water to an
appropriate facility off playa or contract with
Johnny on the Spot to let a professional handle
the grey water. With 30 days notice, they will
provide a collection tank for you at the event
that they will pick up at the end for disposal.
If you want to construct an evaporation pond,
remember to keep it shallow (4 inches or less),
use black plastic, experiment with absorbent
materials hanging into the pond and be prepared
to siphon what doesn't evaporate. Do not dump
water from an evaporation pond on the playa
surface! Minimize shower use the last couple days
of the event to reduce amount of grey water that
you'll need to collect and haul home. The web

Beware of the Hungry Wind: Bring tethers,
anchors, containers, and covers to keep light
stuff from blowing away. When leaving Black Rock
City, secure your load, especially your trash.
Don't let your trash fly off your vehicle, and do
not dump it on the side of the road or at a rest
stop on the way home! Use an approved dumping
facility or take or home with you. Plan ahead
before you even pack for the playa so you leave
with a minimal amount of trash. Starting home,
take a rest stop early; at the entrance gate, at
a wide pullout, or maybe at the Empire store.
Check your load. It is most likely to fail early
in the trip.

(4) BE A LNT MEMBER OF OUR COMMUNITY
Promote LNT Neighbors: Be proud of your
neighborhood, work together with your neighbors
to keep your part of the city clean. Every year
some camps get overwhelmed and need help. The
seventh and final principle of LNT practice is
"be considerate of others," which in our city
includes helping neighbors to leave no trace. We
all enjoy the generosity of our theme camps,
artists, and fellow citizens. So look around and
pitch in to help keep things clean: offer a tool,
an extra hand, a gesture of thanks.

Be Prepared: Carry a MOOP bag and water as you
walk around your part of the city and out on the
playa. Our community works together to improve
our life on the playa, rather than rely upon
rules and regulations enforced by outsiders to
keep us in line. Talk to others and help them to
better understand how to leave no trace.

Don't bring cheap trinkets for gifts or barter.
Try giving a smile, a helping hand or a joke.
Thousands of 'gifts' end up as trash. And feather
boas, or ANYTHING that sheds, is a no-no: the
trash fence tells us so. You are the best gift.

(5) BURN RESPONSIBLY
Don't Burn on the Unprotected Playa. Burning Man
is all about burning; we've become the experts at
LNT Burning. Burning directly on the alkaline
playa BAKES the surface into a dark, hard
brick-like material.

Use community burn barrels or a burn platform.
Burn only untreated wood or paper and nothing
oversized that will spill ash or burning debris
onto the playa. Be sure the wood you place in the
burn platform is well contained. Don't overload
the burn platforms. Have tools on hand to break
down and cut up larger pieces. If a platform is
already full, be prepared to wait until there's
space to add your wood or try the next platform.

Don't burn anything that is toxic. You (or your
children) will regret it later! Burning
synthetics is a serious health risk. Do not burn
PVC (nasty dioxins), carpets, plastic, large
pieces of furniture (couches, futons, etc). or
anything treated, dyed or painted. And please
discourage anyone with a glass bottle from
throwing it into a fire. Glass doesn't burn. It
shatters! They're not dumping stations!

Be a Toxic Avenger. Keep an eye on the platforms.
Let others know that only wood and paper can be
burned here and nothing oversized. Tell them we
do this to protect the playa and our lungs. And
if you see someone being careless, explain why
they need to stop. Email

(6) CLEAN UP
Clean As You Go and Grid Your Camp at the End!
Don't wait until the end of the week to pick
stuff up. Clean as you go. This will help you
from getting overwhelmed by the mess and help
keep MOOP from blowing out of reach. Then, at
the end of our event, pack-up and load everything
(including all trash) into your vehicles, and do
a line sweep for every last bit of MOOP. Give
everyone a Ziploc bag, line them up along one
edge of camp, look down and slowly walk to the
other side. Make it fun! Cover your entire area
looking for those last bits of MOOP: every twist
tie, cigarette butt, food scrap, carpet fiber,
match, nut shell, staple, scrap of plastic
Ševerything. Start taking down your camp Sunday,
not at the last minute when patience and energy
are running low.

A Buried Stake Doesn't Disappear. Instead, its
hazard is magnified. Even when pounded below the
surface, a stake will slowly, inevitably, emerge
from the playa. Then it might be found during
the Bureau of Land Management's spring
inspection, producing a black mark against permit
renewal; or it might not be found until it tears
a tire or gashes a foot - maybe during next
year's event, maybe to a windsurfer or another
group that, like us, uses the playa. A pair of
vise-grips will almost always remove a stuck
stake. First clamp on the vise-grips and rotate
the stake back and forth, to break the playa's
grip. Then continue rotating and also pull
upwards. Ask neighbors for help. As a last
resort, make the stake highly visible by
fastening something to it. Someone else with
heftier tools will be able to get it out.

Devote Two Hours to General Cleanup in Black Rock
City! Each participant is asked to contribute
two hours to community cleanup before departure.
This means streets, Center Camp, Center Café, all
other public spaces, and open playa where stuff
may have been left behind. Stop by the Earth
Guardian camp during the week and on Sunday and
Monday and we'll direct you to the areas of the
City that need the most attention.

Join the post-event DPW clean-up crews. Help
deMOOP! The Bureau of Land Management must agree
that we've left no trace, that our site is more
than just clean in appearance. After the event,
random circular plots of our city are inspected.
Collected debris may not exceed an average of 1.0
square foot per acre, less than 23 parts per
million! No pits, bumps, burn scars, or buried
materials can be left behind. Volunteer to help
ensure that we come back next year!

How little waste can we generate as a camp? We are posting a zero waste challange to all of our Raisins. Buy in bulk, rethink, reuse, we are going for the most eco camp raisins have ever seen. Lets commit to our beliefs to make this happen. I am looking into a diesel generator, and bringing biodiesel.

How are you getting to camp? Carpooling? How few vehicles can we bring?

Any more suggestion?

Its that time of year again! Time to rally the community back to the playa!

“It Takes a Village…”

We had our first official planning meeting for Burning Man '06 on this last Friday night and it was a very positive, productive, and pro-active meeting with about 9 main ‘focalizers’ of us in attendance, (the reluctant bureaucrats who are really anarchists at heart).

There are some changes this year, as all healthy entities evolve, so we will explain those, as well as reiterate some of the basic guidelines and recommendations of camp life.

Well we’ve done it! We have organically become a village! We are applying to officially gain "village status", as our numbers keep growing and so do our space demands. We are up around 130 people at our peak last year and this year we expect an increase. At the same time we are also aware of the need to keep the numbers down to keep communal spaces workable and livable. In order to set ourselves up for keeping a harmonious vibe we will to have to cap our enrollment. Please note that SPACE IS LIMITED! Not everyone is guaranteed a spot in Raisin Camp, and we are inviting you to be proactive to ensure your place in the sun so please read this letter carefully.

THINK PODS!
Brad and Adam have come up with a very inspired camp design this year -- a spiral based on the Golden Mean. We will have our group structures which comprise the heart of Raisin Camp -- The Bedouin living room, The grand meeting place/workshop space/dance-party zone under the giant parachute, the palapa bar, and the group kitchen.

But the chief difference is that we will be grouping together as "pods" of about 8-20 people. Each pod will have a location along the spiral and pods are encouraged to be self-sufficient with their own kitchen set-ups and shower set-ups, water (2-5 gallons per person per day) and composting stations. We are requesting pods to be as eco-friendly and self sufficient as possible this year.

We will still set up a large group kitchen space, however it will be used for group events, (Wednesday mojito party, Friday morning pancake breakfast, Friday night goddess feast, Saturday night pre-burn potluck? etc). We emphasize the formation of pod kitchens for other meals, as keeping the kitchen sanitary for this many people at once is a full time job, and some people experienced illness because of this last year. We request that we all work in supporting a low- impact clean kitchen environment. We appreciate those pods who had their own kitchen set up last year and encourage all to follow this necessary adjustment.

So the best way for you to secure your niche at Blazin' Raisin is start coordinating your pod together ASAP - find out who you/they are, elect a focalizer for your pod who will be the main person representing you all and handling the logistics with the “organizers who will be coming to the event on the early side to help start setting up your pod-space. Also, sending in your camp contributions early, (as in NOW) to help secure your place and enable us to start buying what is needed this year for improving our infrastructure. We have already begun to receive contributions, and space is limited to a first come first serve basis.

** please note –For maximum harmonization, and camp revival fun we REALLY encourage people to be in pod groups!

If you are really having a hard time getting it together, then don't despair, we can help you coordinate possibly or make a few exceptions for people who just really want to camp solo but we are really trying to create cohesion in a way that also makes practical sense based on our size this year.

***ABOUT CAMP CONTRIBUTIONS/FEES

We are asking for the same contribution per person as last year, sliding scale from $50- $???.
Some of the things this money goes to are: infrastructure support and upgrades, installation of the camp and the preparation of this endeavor, transportation of infrastructure out to playa (many large, heavy items may require repeated trips from our storage space in Reno out to Black Rock and/or need for a rental vehicle for hauling), filling and re-filling of large group water vessels during Burning Man, fuel for generator, lighting, photovoltaics, camp-beautification, building of storage shed near Reno to store all camp infrastructure, group kitchen and cleaning supplies, and some communal food and beverages.

We are creating a spread sheet this year keeping track of contributions, expenses and expenditures. We are committed to transparency in all areas of our finance, and if anyone is curious about our book-keeping skills than we are happy to show it to you!

Brad, our camp Legend and Hero, who installs the 350’ parachute, made the kitchen, stores the goods, and does a million other jobs during camp is always the first one to put in to the fund! He refuses to let Raisin Camp pay for his ticket, so devoted is he to creating this community for everyone and being an equal contributor. I think everyone knows how hard Brad works his ass off before, during, and after! last year after we all left Pyramid Lake and went home to sleep for days, he went to our dear friend Captain Robert's land outside of Reno and spent two weeks building a storage shed for Raisin Camp! I say this by way of inspiring all of you to embody that spirit of giving from the heart to enhance the Whole.

There will also be some positions available on an energy-exchange basis. Meaning if you are low on funds but rich in reliability and motivation. We would love certain people to take on more responsibility in the form of certain roles such as: kitchen manager, compost-garbage-recycling manager, living-space manager, electrical guru, etc.

There are many more topics to cover but we will stagger all the information to maximize absorption and undermine overwhelm!

Some of the other things that we will be imminently sending postings about include:

-- The "Greening" of Raisin Camp - working towards making Blazin' Raisin a model of sustainability practices and philosophy
-- Offerings of workshops, classes, discussions, etc. in our common space for the common good
-- a list of items that everyone should plan on bringing, as well as requests for certain items that only some people need bring
-- Our camp-sponsored events such as: mojito party, post-hamsa-lila pancake breakfast, (and possibly others), and some communal food items such as watermelons, chips and salsa, etc.)

Of course input is encouraged and anticipated! But please be conscious of e-mail exchanges... i.e. if you are directing your e-mail to a certain person or group of people, please don't copy to the entire list, etc. If you have not already please go to tribe.net and join (for free) blazin’ raisin tribe to network and receive up to date important new threads. Indriya will also be posting things as they come up so check it out! It is the best resource for current information and to help you connect with potential pod members and out only webpage.

If you are planning on bringing friends who have never camped with us before, and/or have never been to Burning Man before, please let us know and also be totally accountable for that friend or friends we request that the pods be no larger than 20 people max. Make sure their needs are met, they are well-prepared, they know about "Leave no Trace" policy, and they are well-acquainted with Raisin Camp etiquette! Let's take care of our new family and make sure they have the most positive experience ever!

REMEMBER the earlier you start dialoguing with us and get your funds in, the better your chances for securing your spot and co-creating the beautiful, bountiful, loving miracle that is Blazin' Raisin!

To be or not to be... on the MAP

Plans are moving full speed ahead to get village status for Raisin Camp this year.
Many thanks to all who have contibuted time to this administrative effort.
There are benefits to being an official ¨village,¨ including the privilege of early entrance to the playa to create and construct our home, and reserved space on the playa.
Village status does not require that we put Blazin Raisin on the official BMan map.
So far, according to the wishes of Adam, Brad, and AJ, the plan is for us to be on the map this year.
My thought is that if we are on the map, we´ll have more people coming by to check us out... which can be great or not, depending on how prepared we are, logisitically, energetically, etc.
My first thought was to avoid the publicity of being on the MAP... but then I´m sure there are many things that can come from this new era of Village Status...
We are offering to the public this year, so far:
the crow´s nest on top of the 34 foot mast, from which people can get a bird´s eye view over the playa
the shade structures and chill spaces beneath the parachute and the bedouin tent, but probably not the kitchen
at least one public event. For sure a dance party, and maybe more.

what else????
there´s still time to get stuff into the WhoWhatWhere,
more later. it´s too hot here in Nicaragua to think straight.

Of your many, many, many faces, I do now so want to touch and kiss and hold and celebrate as beautiful this one particular face of you: Your value as IMPETUS and DEADLINE . I LOVE and have come...to Love You for This! Your deadline is my/our LIFELINE ; your INVITATION tossed out towords us high and far upon the wind... and, "Splash!" (Hell, yeah! Real decent throw !) and landing very near... still bobbing in and then, for long moments too long out of view into this churning sea of habit, temptation, un-focus and other-focus! And yet, There You Stand, Tall and Firm , looking out over this Fertile sea of days... and weeks ...months and this year towards me... towards us... encouraging... Whaaat??? Oh yeah...no wait... What?// a little What??? TIMELY PADDLING???.."NOW! Come On!"... So I Do ... and I Do... and an arm and a leg and an arm and ..I'm being tossed about mercillessly ... just mercilessly... until, with periodic glances to keep straight the bearings ...and an arm and a leg.... run an arm through…and I made the lifesaver in time. Thanks for the deadline! You pulled me in just fine!

I'm aworkin' on this here letter to y'all...and A cool curvy antique table I just got with an eye to trimming the fancy edges with EL-wire and replace the top with an infinity mirror of sorts...and two 10 foot pole whirlygig kinetic wind sculpture things, one in copper and brass, the other in glass, crystal and acrylic ( these are going to be soooo cool<God Willing>).Most of the materials thrift store scored and a little e-bay action. And yes, some new arty lighting pieces and upgrades to some returning pieces . Will there be enough resources of time and money for the bike vehicle I've let up onto the second dimension of paper to make the next big leap up. "Well..." she says to me," We made it two, now how 's bouts a full on freaky funkin' three( and Ooooh, I just LOVE it when she starts talkin' "dimensions" to me!)...Sweet Lover ?!?!" And Lady Erica scored a REALLY cool somethin' that we're going to convert into one crazy heavenly bit of Welcome-to-Blazin'-Raisin'-Promo-shwag...we'll leave this one vague as the Surprise will be worth it.

That just about scratches the surface. Daylon has Brought On a CROWS NEST for the mast. Bradly’s pics are up. Who loves you? And who loves the feeling of letting it ALL just swing on through??? Does Herbert hear a Who??? I believe the answer's Meeeee And Yoooooouuu!!! Me ,You and Cindy Lou Who I tell you! AND! I'VE SPENT ALOT OF TIME IN CAPTIVITY , RESISTING CREATIVITIES CALLS TO ME...suddenly waking to how satisfying... and beyond that, essential even small acts in the yoga of Creation and Contribution really are to me, and how real is (and has been) my Hunger for them... AND THEN I CRAM ALL THIS COMPLETION IN AT THE END AND SHOW UP ALL BEDRAGGLED AND BLOWN OUT.. So here's what I have to say to you. It's what I say, but this time it also appears to be what I am doing. LOVE the DEADLINE...Feel it loving You. Feel it pulling( you out) and pulling (you in). And please... as you care and as you dare... feeeel it stirring you ... and stirring and freeing up some of the Best within you...Now!!!! And go with it , if you can possibly find the inclination.

So, kids...BRING IT! When you imagine adding to this vast pool of beauty and delight which IS Blazin' Raisin'... (and further on out, Burningman...) What comes... to you... all alight? The Vastness is LOVING us RIGHT NOW, and ...and REALLY likes and WANTS US to feel THIS feeling TOO... of ( MMMMMmmmmm !!!) rubbin' all up 'gainst us'n the Intimacy Space. Springs open at Loving Touch...as, and where...we, draped in our Invention Intention, meet ourselves yet again in intersection, now in this "other" guise: our Willingness to be Surprised! And to receive AND to Conceive. (and "Oh the Glory!" 'for our eyes!) Right!!!. This Doctor Braunner enough for you, homies???

I'm feeling it now, and I'm feelin’ it now because I am Caaarazy OPEN. I'm Crazy open now not just because it's6:17 (O.K., now 7:58) AM (ok, its 12:22 PM…And I have Surrendered this time to YOU. Thank you) and I've been typing all night...but mainly because...well... I've let the visions come... and come they have... right on in and, well...( 'taint no sin!) they've set up shop , and from here (Oh-God!, I-can't-WAIT-to-drop!), within this... splace...a letting: the forms, once just the faintest glow...commence to dip...and REALLY slow... to slip, they gain their mass and lose their grip, and slide... and fall, (but not from pride!)... Joy!... Mirth! ...And yeah? O.K. I'll give you that; a pinch of Gall... spilling out and out ...popul- and redec- Orating these embracing Queen-and-Kingdoms of both time and space. And GRACIOUS! Camp Plan 2006

Bradley and Adam have created a layout plan for Raisin Camp 2006!
PLEASE CHECK IN BLAZIN RAISIN PHOTOS TO SEE THE PLAN!!!
At the Center is a dot representing the 34' ship's mast (you recall from last year...)
The first circle (turqoise color) out from the center point is the circumference of the parachute.
The spokes are oriented on the directions of the compass.
The smaller circles (blue and yellow) represent plazas where people will create "pods" or subgroups within camp, like mini-wagon circles within Camp. Depending on the size of the group, you get a larger or smaller circle.
The yellow spiral is the Path, a contemplative meditative walk which starts at the center mast and leads to the temple.
At the 6 o'clock position, inside the arms of the yellow spiral, will be the kitchen, living room, dish line, and social areas.
The dancefloor will be located under the parachute (within the centermost turquoise circle) at the 6 o'clock position, in front of the kitchen.
Adam and Brad would love to get feedback on this, so please please let them know what you think.
I want to sing their praises for their creativity, initiative, and generosity of spirit.
Oh, and one more thing,
we're having a party down here in Santa Cruz this Saturday the 8th at our place on 3rd Street....
